A brief history
One of the most exciting additions to the FIA R3 category, the Toyota GT86 CS-R3 made its public debut performing safety car duties at the 2014 Rallye Deutschland. Full FIA homologation was achieved in the second half of 2015 with the car making its competitive debut in the UK at the Mid-Wales stages in March ’16, driven by Top Gear presenter Chris Harris.

Developed by Toyota Motorsport GmbH (TMG) the GT86 CS-R3 provides drive to the rear wheels through a sequential shift six-speed transmission and motorsport limited slip rear differential with a range of final drive ratio’s. Throughout its development, TMG focused on reducing mass to meet the R3 categories minimum weight limit whilst delivering safety, reliability, high performance, low running costs and and engaging great fun driving experience.

The Rally Prep team competed on a limited programme of British Championship events in 2016 while developing the car for the unique challenges presented by the British stages, and showing the car at prestigious events such as the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power, Goodwood Festival of Speed, Speed Weekend Northern Ireland and Rally Day.

The season included three wins from three starts in the BRC, the CS-R3’s first overall rally win on the Ulster National, becoming 2016 BRC R3 Champions, and concluded with an invite from IMS to provide safety ‘zero car’ duties as the final stage sweeping vehicle on Wales Rally GB. Part of this role included being the first rally car to grace the roads of Chester in 20 years as the event returned to the famous city, crossing the ceremonial ramp in the city centre ahead of the main field as the spectacular culmination of Chester Rally Week.
